SUMMARY
Robust flies of medium to rather large size, 6-12 mm in body length,
generally brownish to dark brown in color. Wing from nearly plain
hyaline or brownish to strongly spotted or blotched with dark brown.
Femora, especially hind femur, conspicuously enlarged; hind tibia often
laterally flattened and broadened. (Steyskal 1987)
