Similar to Meoneura neottiophila, but male terminalia without posterior small 'appendage of surstylus', apparently with more hairs/setae in middle, and with longer epandrial setae.
Greece
In Greece specimens were collected in end of July/beginning of August in Malaise traps; 750 m.
Diptera Classification: Meoneura near neottiophila
The Carnidae fauna of Greece is poorly known, with only Meoneura graeca Hennig, 1972, M. obscurella Fallén, 1823, M. prima Becker 1905, and ?M. vagans Fallén, 1823 recorded (Strobl, 1902, Hennig 1937 & 1972, Sabrosky 1959, Papp, 1984). However, thanks to the efforts of Gordon Ramel, who maintained several Malaise as well as other traps near Lake Kerkini in northern Greece, close to the border to Bulgaria, this has now changed.

Flies, gnats, maggots, midges, mosquitoes, keds, bots, etc. are all common names for members of the order Diptera. This diversity of names documents the importance of the group to man and reflects the range of organisms in the order. The order is one of the four largest groups of living organisms. There are more known flies than vertebrates. These insects are a major component of virtually all non-marine ecosystems. Only the cold arctic and antarctic ice caps are without flies. The economic importance of the group is immense.
