Ulidiidae

Flies of quite varied habitus, but never exceptionally elongate nor compact, although a few species slender enough to mimic ants; length 3-12 mm in North American species. Coloration often quite bright and frequently metallic. Wing usually with some kind of pattern. (Steyskal 1987, Greve 1998)
