Australimyza australensis Mik, 1881

Diagnostic description: 

This species is distinguished from other species of the australensis group by the following combination of characters: frons and thorax with yellowish gray microtomentum; postpronotum yellowish, setae relatively thick; frontal setulae small; female sternites 3, 4 and 5 unsclerotized medially.

Morphology: 

Head: frons and orbital plates with yellowish gray microtomentum; frons with 5-7 small (up to twice the diameter of ocellus) setulae near orbits

Thorax with yellowish gray microtomentum; three dorsocentral setae; about 4-5 irregular rows of acrostichals between dorsocentral rows; a few acrostichal setulae in middle of mesonotum elongated; prescutellar acrostichal seta of variable length, sometimes absent.

Wing length 1.8-2.8 mm, wing width 0.7-1.1 mm; halter yellow

Legs: yellow

Male abdomen
: surstylus about 2x length of epandrium; cercus length about half the height of epandrium.

Female abdomen: sternites 3, 4 and 5 unsclerotized medially.
