SUMMARY

Heterocheilids (half-bridge flies) are medium-sized maritime flies of the North Temperate zone. They were first assigned family status by McAlpine (1991), having been previously referred to the Helcomyzidae, Dryomyzidae, or Coelopidae. The only included genus, Heterocheila Rondani, 1857, has often been referred to by the synonymous name Oedoparea Loew, 1862. (McAlpine 1998)
